Judicial Appointments Should Not Be Political
by Kemp Brinson
This is not news in Polk County, at least not right now, but I agree 100% with the sentiments in this editorial from the St. Pete Times. Gov. Crist recently appointed a party insider with very little trial experience as a Circuit Court judge over two long-serving County Court judges. It is certainly possible that a lawyer with little courtroom experience can make a great judge. But I would expect that person to have a killer academic and/or public service background. I would not want someone who is an insider in the Governor’s political party.
The Judicial Nominating Commissions should NOT be entirely appointed by the Governor. Period. Florida needs to fix this.
